Ketamine vs. KAT
Ketamine VS Ketamine-Assisted Therapy (KAT) and Why Is It Worth the Investment?
In the evolving landscape of mental health care, ketamine has gained attention as a fast-acting option for depression, anxiety, PTSD, and more. But not all ketamine treatment is the same. At Evergood, we believe strongly in a comprehensive, integrative model called Ketamine-Assisted Therapy (KAT), and here’s why.
Ketamine Alone vs. Ketamine-Assisted Therapy: What’s the Difference?
Ketamine, when used alone (often via IV, IM, or lozenges), can offer temporary relief of symptoms like depression and anxiety. The effects may be fast, but often short-lived if not paired with deeper therapeutic work. Short lived also means that you might be continuously returning for treatment, and that really isn’t the point, as we aren’t trying to replace your traditional medication with a new one like ketamine!
In contrast, KAT combines the medicine with psychotherapy before, during, and after your sessions. This includes:
-Preparation: Helping you set intentions and create a safe, supported space for your journey.
-Integration: Making sense of what arose during your experience—turning insights into lasting change.
Why does this matter? Because ketamine doesn’t just work on symptoms—it temporarily disrupts rigid thought patterns and increases neuroplasticity (your brain’s ability to change). If you don’t pair that window of change with support and guidance, the opportunity for real transformation can be missed or even become destabilizing.
The Risks of Skipping the Therapy Piece
Without therapeutic support, ketamine sessions can leave people feeling:
-Emotionally raw, without the tools to process
-Disconnected or dissociated without clarity
-Confused by what surfaced, or unsure how to apply it
-Continuously returning for treatments as your insights don’t get turned into progress
In some cases, this can lead to avoidance patterns, spiritual bypassing, or chasing relief through more sessions, rather than sustainable change. That's why prep and integration aren’t optional, and they're essential!

Why This Is the Standard of Care at Evergood
At Evergood, we do not offer ketamine as a stand-alone treatment. Not because it doesn’t help some people—but because we’ve seen what’s possible when it’s done right.
Our care model is built around holistic, integrative healing that supports the mind, body, and spirit. And our team reflects that vision:
-Dr. Csilla Linzsky, Psychiatrist
-Mikkeshia Daniels, FNP, PMHNP — Family and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
-Hilary Shaw, LCSW, RD — Experience trauma and mental health therapist and Registered Dietitian specializing in integrative nutrition
-Debbie Debreaux, LCSW — Experienced trauma and mental health therapist
Together, we offer deep clinical expertise across psychiatry, therapy, nutrition, lifestyle, and overall wellness—and we believe your healing shouldn’t end when you walk out of the clinic.
This Is Whole-Person Medicine
Whether you’re navigating identity shifts, working through burnout and emotional suppression, or looking for purpose beyond productivity, your healing journey deserves more than a prescription!
At Evergood, therapy is paired with medicine, but also supported by education, nutrition, longevity therapies, and nervous system regulation tools like our soundbed experiences. Why? Because healing happens in our everyday lives; in our thoughts, relationships, sleep, work, meals, and routines. This is real life. This is real medicine.
Is It Worth the Investment?
If you're seeking lasting change—not just symptom relief—then yes! Choosing KAT at Evergood with a trained, credentialed team means you're investing in a framework that:
-Honors your full complexity
-Supports your nervous system before, during, and after treatment
-Helps you make sense of what arises
Keeps you safe, seen, and supported
